MCP server
Roar's MCP server works with Claude, Cursor, Codex, and other MCP clients.
Last updated
Roar runs a remote MCP server that lets AI tools like Claude, Cursor, and Codex work with your workspace. A connected agent can read your campaigns and metrics, track posts, organize your workspace, and start sourcing runs. Roar doesn't have a public REST API, so MCP is the way to connect other software.
Server details#
| Endpoint | https://app.roaros.com/api/mcp |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Authentication | API key (Authorization: Bearer roar_sk_…) or OAuth sign-in |
| Scopes | Read, or Read and write |
| Daily limit | 500 calls on Individual, 2,000 on Pro |
A connection only has access to the workspace its key or sign-in belongs to.
| Method | Suited to | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| API key | Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, scripts | Create one in Settings → Developers (MCP keys) |
| OAuth sign-in | Claude.ai, Cursor | Add the endpoint, then sign in to Roar and approve |
Read covers analytics, reports, and lookups. Read and write adds tracking, campaigns, groups, tags, and sourcing.
Claude.ai#
This works on the web and in the Claude mobile apps.
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Enter
https://app.roaros.com/api/mcpas the URL. - Sign in to Roar, choose Read or Read and write, and select Approve.
Claude Code#
Create an API key, then run:
claude mcp add --transport http roaros https://app.roaros.com/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer roar_sk_YOUR_SECRET"
Roar shows this command with your key filled in when you create the key.
Cursor#
To connect with sign-in, add Roar to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"roaros": {
"url": "https://app.roaros.com/api/mcp"
}
}
}
Cursor opens the Roar sign-in. Choose Read or Read and write, then Approve.
To use an API key instead, add it as a header:
{
"mcpServers": {
"roaros": {
"url": "https://app.roaros.com/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer roar_sk_YOUR_SECRET"
}
}
}
}
Other clients#
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect with a bearer token or sign-in.
Codex: store your key in an environment variable and add the server.
export ROAROS_API_KEY=roar_sk_YOUR_SECRET
codex mcp add roaros --url https://app.roaros.com/api/mcp \
--bearer-token-env-var ROAROS_API_KEY
ChatGPT: turn on developer mode under Connectors in ChatGPT's settings, add a connector with https://app.roaros.com/api/mcp, and sign in to Roar.
Capabilities#
- Read campaigns, groups, posts, tracked accounts, tags, and shortlists, with their metrics.
- Analyze totals, daily growth, outliers, view milestones, engagement, and tag performance.
- Track a post by URL, up to 25 posts in one request, or a creator's account.
- Create campaigns, groups, and tags, tag posts, and move posts between campaigns and groups.
- Start, check, and cancel sourcing runs, and save results to a shortlist.
- Write weekly performance reports and daily milestone summaries.
Agents can't delete or untrack posts. They can remove a post from a campaign, but it stays tracked in the workspace.
Example prompts#
- "Using Roar, how did our TikTok posts do this week compared with last week?"
- "Track these five posts in the Spring Drop campaign, in the Week 2 group: …"
- "Which hooks have the best engagement rate across all campaigns? Show a table."
- "Find 15 fitness creators on Instagram with under 50K followers and add them to a shortlist called Gym launch."
- "Write our Monday update from Roar: top posts, view milestones, and anything that broke out."
Limits#
| Individual | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| MCP calls per day | 500 | 2,000 |
| Sourcing runs per day | 10 | 25 |
Each tool call counts once, and the count resets daily. Past the limit, calls return "Daily MCP tool limit reached." Sourcing runs cost 25 AI credits each and share a daily limit with runs started in Roar. Bulk tracking accepts up to 25 URLs per call; any beyond that are ignored.
Errors#
| Error | Cause |
|---|---|
| 401 Unauthorized, or "MCP authentication is required." | The key is missing, mistyped, or revoked, or its creator left the workspace. Create a new key or sign in again. |
| "This MCP key cannot call that tool." | The key is Read and the request needs Read and write. |
| "Daily MCP tool limit reached." | The daily limit is used up. It resets tomorrow. |
A profile or channel URL can't be tracked as a post. Ask the agent to track the account instead. See Troubleshooting for more.
